Cleaner fuels for a cleaner future
FHR produces a variety of transportation fuels, energy products and other products
at the Pine Bend Refinery. Every day, 365 days a year, FHR transforms 12 million
gallons of crude oil into gasoline, including
Blue PlanetŪ gasoline, diesel
fuel and jet fuel. FHR also makes asphalt
for paving roads and many other products.
A quick rundown of FHR's products and their uses includes:
- Gasoline - for cars, trucks, boats and snowmobiles
- Diesel fuel - for cars, trucks, farm equipment and locomotives
- Jet fuel - for commercial airliners and private planes
- Carbon dioxide - for freezing food
- Propane and butane - for home and industrial use
- Sulfur - for manufacturing processes and medical products
- Petroleum coke - for burning in coal-fired power plants
- Asphalt - for roads, parking lots, construction, sealants and roofing
FHR is not the only producer and supplier of transportation fuels and
energy products into Minnesota. Pipelines from Chicago, North Dakota
and the Magellan Pipeline bring in fuel products other parts of the
country. Two other refineries - one in the Twin Cities and one in
Superior, Wisconsin - also produce and supply fuel products.
Most of FHR's fuel products leave the refinery by pipeline. FHR has its own pipeline to the
Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport for jet fuel, and a pipeline through Wisconsin to Madison
and Milwaukee. FHR is connected to the Magellan Pipeline, which carries products from FHR and other
refiners throughout Minnesota toIowa,North and South Dakota. Other products leave the refinery by truck
or rail, and petroleum coke and asphalt leave by barge down the Mississippi River.
